Sound Passage:
Voice Workshops and Private Sessions
Saturday, December 20, 3-5pm
In-Person at Sanctuary in Northampton, MA
What does your voice reveal about you?
The quality of our voice says a lot about our emotional state, telling listeners if we are tired, elated, anxious, joyful, easeful, or anywhere in between. When we are anxious, this comes through in our voice. When we are regulated, at ease in our body, and calm, our voice reveals this.
What might your voice say about you? Is it deep, whispery, muffled, quick, or slow? Do you project easily, or is your voice soft and gentle? What adjectives come to mind?
No prior vocal experience is needed, and all exercises are designed to support you as you uncover a deeper connection to your voice and your emotional center. Whether you’re looking to relieve stress, find more balance, or simply discover the magic of your own vocal range, this workshop will help you access tools so your voice is a true expression of who you are.
Workshops and Private Sessions
Workshops and private sessions are a place to listen to your voice, and I will meet you right where you are. All voices and bodies are joyfully welcome in this practice. Here is how I will guide you:
Permission: Accessing the power of your voice can be scary to do on your own, especially because the critical voice can be so strong. We start with a gentle check-in to the body and breathing with awareness. Mics are off so you can sound however you wish; cameras are up to you (but I always love to see your radiant face!).
Sounding: We often start with gentle vocal exercises to open your jaw and throat and relax areas of your body that often hold tension. Sighing, humming, and holding sounds are a few ways we begin this exploration. We play with certain sounds, shifting slowly so you can feel how your body responds. Particular vocal sounds release stress, while others help you tap into your emotional centers for a gentle release. I create space for you to be just as you are.
Movement: We build in gentle movement slowly as we make sounds. Certain movements help you explore your inner fire, while others help you tap into your vulnerability. Each movement is designed to help you connect with the inner wisdom of your body. The unique combination of sound and movement helps you deepen your mind-body connection and awaken your senses.
